Nature and Target Group:
The Bote are one of the indigenous communities in Nepal. They live along the riverbanks and depend on fishing. The mission of the project is to focus on improving the livelihood of the Bote communities through skill development and other support services, while creating an open avenue for them to seek assistance from higher levels of authority both at the local and national levels. Similarly, during this project’s period, SKILL a Kathmandu based NGO, supported this community in domestic plumbing and electrical work training through Fri PAD. SKILL provided required budgets, training instruments and skilful human resources to conduct the training.
Achievements:
The Program provided some training on bamboo handicraft, electrical wiring for houses and plumbing, Altogether 25 households of Bote families were involved in the Bote Income Generation Project (Bamboo handicrafts) of Sukranagar VDC and 52 unemployed boys participated in those training Program of Gunjanagar, Jagatpur, Dibyanagar and Megauli VDCs.
Donors and Funding:
Particularly, the GTZ NGO fund project provided the funding for Bote Income Generation Project. A total of USD $1,828.56 was invested towards the Bote Income Generation Project. SKILL also contributed USD $92,343.85 for domestic plumbing and house wiring training initiative. The SKILL is a Helvetas funded NGO having the head office in Jawalakhel, Lalitpur. SKILL fund went directly to the beneficiaries.
Role of Fri PAD in Implementation:
Fri PAD implemented the overall project and enhanced the skills and uplifted the socio-economic condition of the Bote community. Fri PAD selected the interested young boys who were unemployed for the house wiring and domestic plumbing training in coordination with SKILL.

Community Involvement and Sustainability:
The Bote community has since continued in their groups, which has developed into a cooperative to market their bamboo crafts products. The young, unemployed boys are now able to do their business. A total of 93% trainees have been doing their business on their own after the project intervention.
